The RDL RU-VCA2A and RU-VCA6A are full-featured multi-channel attenuator modules for local and/or remote level control of line-level analog audio. The RU-VCA2A is a two-channel device for stereo or mono use. The RU-VCA6A is a six-channel product for control of 5.1 Surround Sound. Either attenuator may also be used to control multiple individual analog audio channels.
A unique feature of the RU-VCA2A and RU-VCA6A is the ability to slave multiple modules from a single master module. Either module may be set as MASTER or SLAVE providing the ability to control more than 2 or 6 channels from single or multiple point controls. With no practical limit to the number of RU-VCA2As and/or RU-VCA6As that can be slaved off of a single master, it is possible to control not only Stereo and 5.1 Surround, but 7.1, 10.2 and 22.2 Surround Sound systems.
RDL Digitally Controlled Attenuators can be controlled locally using front-panel push buttons and/or remotely by a variety of RDL and OEM devices. The system designer/installer can select between two modes of operation:
- MOM (momentary) – Audio level is controlled by front-panel and/or remote momentary closures or pulses. A user programmable PRESET level is available in this mode. The PRESET level can be recalled either by pressing the GO TO PRESET button on the front-panel or by simultaneous closure of UP and DOWN buttons on remote controls. Multiple remote control locations are possible.
- 0 to 10 Vdc – In this mode the PRESET function and front-panel UP and DOWN buttons are disabled. Level control is provided by either a single 10 kΩ linear potentiometer or a 0 to 10 Vdc source.
RDL manufactures a variety of MOM and 0 to 10 Vdc Remote Level Controls. We will talk about those next time.
